The best AI video generator for YouTube depends on the kind of video you make. For faceless explainer videos built from a script, look at InVideo AI or Pictory. For a talking presenter without filming yourself, look at HeyGen or Synthesia. For short cinematic clips and b-roll, look at Runway or CapCut. To edit and caption everything for free, Clipchamp is hard to beat.

This guide groups the tools by job and lists the free plan and starting price for each, taken from each company's own pricing page (linked at the end). It also covers the part most lists skip: how to use AI video without breaking YouTube's monetization and disclosure rules.

How to choose the right AI video tool

Before comparing prices, answer three questions:

  1. Who is on screen? Nobody (stock footage and graphics), an AI avatar, or AI-generated scenes.
  2. Where does the script come from? You write it, or the tool drafts it from an idea or a URL.
  3. Long videos or Shorts? Long explainers need stock libraries and voiceover. Shorts need fast cuts, captions and vertical exports.

Most successful faceless channels combine two tools: one to generate and one to edit. A typical stack is a generator (InVideo, Pictory or Runway) plus a free editor (Clipchamp or CapCut) for captions, pacing and the final polish.

Best for faceless explainer videos

InVideo AI

InVideo positions itself as an AI video creation platform with access to many video, image and audio models, plus a timeline editor and premium stock footage.

  • Starter: listed at $20 per seat a month, or $10 with the 50% annual discount shown when we checked. Includes 400 credits a month, the timeline editor and 100 premium stock footage items.
  • Plus: $60 per seat a month, or $30 billed annually, with 2,000 credits and access to all models.
  • Note: InVideo says credits don't roll over and that it may change credit costs.

Best for: turning a topic or script into a full faceless video quickly. Try it at InVideo AI. New to it? Follow our InVideo AI tutorial for beginners.

Pictory

Pictory turns ideas, URLs, scripts, documents, slides and audio into videos.

  • Starter: $25 a month billed annually ($29 billed monthly), with a free trial. It includes an AI video agent, a scene editor, access to 5 million+ royalty-free videos from Getty Images and Storyblocks, and AI voices from ElevenLabs.
  • Professional: $35 a month billed annually, adding voice clones and a larger stock library.

Best for: repurposing blog posts into YouTube videos. If you already write articles, this is the most natural fit.

Best for AI presenters (avatars)

HeyGen

HeyGen's free plan lets you make 3 videos a month, up to 1 minute each, with a watermark. It includes access to its Avatar IV and Video Agent, one custom video avatar and 500+ ready-made presenters.

  • Creator: $29 a month. Adds 1080p export, removes HeyGen branding and lets you make a custom avatar with your own voice and likeness.
  • Pro: $49 a month, with 4K export and more credits.

Best for: channels that want a consistent "host" without filming.

Synthesia

Synthesia's Basic plan is $0 a month. It includes 10 minutes of video creation or dubbing and 500 credits, with sharing by link. Free videos carry a Synthesia watermark.

  • Starter: $19 a month (the page showed $9 for the first month). Adds downloads and removes the Synthesia logo.

Best for: clean, professional explainers and tutorials. Note that on the free plan you share by link. Downloading your video is a Starter feature.

Important: If you use an avatar of a real person, or make someone appear to say something they didn't say, YouTube requires an AI disclosure. Never clone someone's face or voice without permission.

Best for cinematic AI clips and b-roll

Runway

Runway's free plan includes 125 one-time credits to explore its AI tools. Its pricing FAQ says Gen-4.5 uses 12 credits per second of generated video, so the free credits cover roughly 10 seconds of Gen-4.5 footage.

  • Standard: $12 a month billed annually ($15 monthly), with 625 credits a month. Runway says that equals about 52 seconds of Gen-4.5.

Best for: eye-catching hooks, transitions and b-roll for Shorts, not full 10-minute videos.

CapCut

CapCut has a free plan with templates and basic editing tools. Its AI video generation runs on paid plans.

  • Pro: USD 19.99 a month, with 1,200 monthly AI credits. CapCut says Pro can generate up to 240 seconds at 720p (or 600 seconds at 480p) with its Seedance 2.0 Mini model.
  • CapCut notes that the prices shown are for reference, and you need to sign in to see your final price.

Best for: Shorts creators who want to generate clips and edit them in the same app.

Best free editor to finish your videos: Clipchamp

Microsoft's Clipchamp has a free plan that lets you export as many videos as you like in up to 1080p, with no watermark. The free plan includes AI subtitles, AI voiceovers, silence removal, a screen and camera recorder, and free stock assets. Premium features, such as 4K export and premium stock, come with Microsoft 365 Personal or Family.

Best for: adding captions, trimming dead air and exporting a clean final video at no cost.

Will AI videos get monetized on YouTube?

AI tools are allowed. Low-effort, mass-produced videos are not. Here's what YouTube's own policy pages say.

Inauthentic content. On July 15, 2025, YouTube renamed its "repetitious content" policy to "inauthentic content" and clarified that it covers content that is repetitive or mass-produced. Its examples of content that can't be monetized include "AI-generated content made with generic or unoriginal templates giving the impression of mass production without adding the creator's original, authentic insights or perspective." Image slideshows and scrolling text with little or no narrative or educational value are also listed.

What's allowed. YouTube says you can use the same intro and outro and follow a similar format, as long as each video is materially different and delivers creative, educational or other value.

AI disclosure. YouTube requires creators to disclose realistic AI content that:

  • makes a real person appear to say or do something they didn't do,
  • alters footage of a real event or place,
  • generates a realistic scene that didn't actually occur, or
  • creates music that's the main focus of the video.

You disclose this in YouTube Studio during upload, under "AI use." YouTube says disclosing AI content alone won't limit a video's audience or its eligibility to earn money. Creators who consistently fail to disclose may face penalties, including removal from the YouTube Partner Program.

AI personas on sensitive topics. YouTube also won't monetize channels where an AI persona poses as a human expert giving health, legal, financial or political advice. One example it lists is AI-generated podcast hosts offering investment tips. Keep AI narrators in the role of explainer, not advisor.

A simple rule for AI YouTube videos

Use AI for the production, and keep the ideas human. Write or heavily edit the script yourself, add real examples and opinions, vary the structure from video to video, and check every fact. The tool saves you hours. Your perspective is what makes the video worth monetizing.

FAQ

What is the best free AI video generator for YouTube?

For a talking presenter, HeyGen's free plan gives 3 watermarked videos a month. For AI clips, Runway gives 125 one-time credits. For editing with AI captions and voiceover, Clipchamp's free plan exports 1080p video with no watermark. Most creators combine a generator with a free editor.

Can faceless AI videos be monetized on YouTube?

Yes, if they're original and add value. YouTube's inauthentic content policy blocks mass-produced, template-driven AI videos that lack the creator's own insight. Faceless channels that teach, review or explain with real substance can qualify.

Do I have to label AI videos on YouTube?

Only when the content seems realistic and fits YouTube's disclosure list, such as a real person saying things they didn't, altered real events, realistic made-up scenes, or AI music as the main focus. Animated or clearly unrealistic content and minor edits don't need it.

Which AI video tool is best for YouTube Shorts?

CapCut and Runway are strong for short, punchy clips, and Clipchamp is a free way to add captions and export vertical videos. InVideo AI is a good choice if you want a full Short generated from a script.

Is InVideo AI free?

InVideo's pricing page, when we checked, listed paid plans starting with Starter at $20 per seat a month, or $10 with the annual discount. We didn't see a free plan there, so check the page for current offers.

Conclusion

There's no single best AI video generator for YouTube, only the best one for your format. Use InVideo AI or Pictory for faceless explainers, HeyGen or Synthesia for presenters, and Runway or CapCut for cinematic clips. Finish everything in Clipchamp for free. Then make sure every video carries your own ideas, so it passes YouTube's inauthentic content check.
